Jelson is a young boy who lives in one of the poorest areas of Leon, Nicaragua with his mother and two brothers. Jelson’s father passed away when he was three-years-old and his mother works hard but it isn’t enough.

Because of Sponsorship through Project Hope Worldwide Jelson is safe, has nutritious meals, attends school, has access to medical attention and receives spiritual/character mentorship. Jelson excels in spelling and would like to be a scientist when he grows up.

Léon is the second largest city in Nicaragua. The country is considered the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. 80% of its people live on less than $2 a day and the infant mortality rate is 25%. Years of war between the Sandanistas and the Contras combined with failed government policies have severely hindered their economic development. Project Hope Worldwide is holistically caring for orphans, partnering with schools, supplementing medical care, and providing spiritual and character mentorship, in one of the poorest areas of Léon.
