Miguel is a little boy who lives in one of the poorest areas of Leon, Nicaragua with his mother and three brothers. His father abandoned the family shortly after Miguel was born. His mother works as a housekeeper to provide but it isn’t enough. Because of Sponsorship through Project Hope Worldwide Miguel is safe, has nutritious meals, attends school, has access to medical attention and receives spiritual/character mentorship. Miguel has a medical condition that requires medication but that doesn’t stop him from playing his favorite sport baseball.

Léon is the second largest city in Nicaragua. The country is considered the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. 80% of its people live on less than $2 a day and the infant mortality rate is 25%. Years of war between the Sandanistas and the Contras combined with failed government policies have severely hindered their economic development. Project Hope Worldwide is holistically caring for orphans, partnering with schools, supplementing medical care, and providing spiritual and character mentorship, in one of the poorest areas of Léon.
